According to gs.StatCounter.com, 90.8% of internet users make us of Google Search, rendering it the world’s most popular search engine (click the stats image below). In other words, telling Google about your business is like telling to the world about your activity. You can leverage this by adding your business on Google Places.
“Millions of people use Google every day to find places in the real world,” John Hanke, VP Google Maps, Earth and Local, said in April 2010 on the official Google Blog, while announcing that Local Business Center was becoming Google Places, a simple way to add a business on their listings and to rate and share places on Google.
The following steps describe how to create your online presence without necessarily having technical knowledge.
Step 1: Go to Google Places
Go to www.google.com/places and click on “Get started” under the “Get your business found on Google” found on the right side of the web page. In case you don’t have a Google Account, you will have to create one. Note that you can create a Google Account with any valid email address. You are not obliged to use Gmail.
In the next page, you will have the opportunity to check if the business has not yet been added to Google’s listing using the phone number of the business. Once you verify that, proceed to step 2, to provide detailed information of the business.
Step 2: Edit your Google Places Information
Provide all the mandatory information required in the form at this step. Those information are specific for Google to easily help people find your business.
Take note of the address you add. The map on the right side of the page will display the approximate location of the references you will provide. For Google to display the exact location of your business, click on “drag the marker to correct location” link above the map, then edit the precise location of the business. It’s only this way that people can find your real address and move over to you.
Step 3: Confirm your Google Places Information
At this stage, you have to validate the the information provided. It’s just a click. Note that your information will be submitted for review as a number of Googlers are in charge to crosscheck your listing before approving it, but it does not take long.
Step 4: Share this Google Places tip.
Using the social media sharing options below, tell your friends and partners about this method of adding their business online. It takes about 5 minutes to be completed. If you have any questions, suggestion or remark, leave your reply below.
