The historical event held on June 12 2009, when United Nations Chief Ban Ki-Moon visited JCI Headquarters in St. Louis. While in the State of Missouri, Mr. Ban also met with the Governor of Missouri, Senators and Congressmen, and delivered a speech at St. Louis University on “Solving the World’s Food and Security Problems”.I don’t have a detailed picture of how the staff at JCI headquarters felt before, during and after the visit, but I have my own big picture of the whole moment. Here is the summary video of the Mr Ban’s visit at JCI World Headquarters.
The video also features as
“Video of the Week on this blog”.
Many could ask why JCI and not another non-profit. I wish I could have all the details at this moment to share them with you, but JCI and the UN have a long standing formal relations. In 2004, JCI hosted its Leadership Summit at the UN in New York and since then, both organizations have been working together, as JCI committed to support the UN in achieving the UN MDGs by 2015, through its 5,000 JCI local communities and 200,000 members the world over.
The next JCI Leadership Summit will focus on Climate Change, and will take place at the UN in Geneva, in partnership with the UN Global Compact. The UN Global Compact is “a framework for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption. Read more about UN Global Compact. Read more about the JCI Leadership Summit here.
Currently, JCI in partnership of the UN Foundation is working to raise funds to buy, transport and distribute 1 million long lasting insecticide-treated mosquito bed nets in Africa by 2015. Join us in this project, visit JCI Nothing But Nets.
